Specialist Training gets underway at Stocks Hall Mawdesley

Representatives from Benmor Medical, who specialise in bariatric patient handling equipment, recently provided a 2 day training course for a group of staff at The Stocks Hall Nursing & Care Group, Mawdesley Home.

This was a practical based course exploring the Manual Handling of the Plus Size (Bariatric) patient including theory, definition, and protocols for the safer management of this patient group.
Over the two day course, staff were able to learn more about Health & Safety Legislation and responsibilities, equipment for the mobile, semi-mobile and non-mobile resident, to help promote Independence and a safer working environment. Equipment included, profiling bariatric beds and specialist mattresses, specialist chairs and hoist systems, in addition to falls equipment. Staff were able to role play and try out all the equipment brought along by Benmor Medical, many of which are currently available on Stocks Hall Mawdesley Wicker Unit.

Kelly Hull, Deputy Manager, says “The training was fantastic, all staff that attended found it extremely beneficial and this will support them in providing the best Quality Care they can give on our specialist bariatric unit (Wicker). Seeing all the equipment that is available is exciting and we will be working with Benmor to ensure that we have specific equipment for each Individual as required.”

Benmor and John Humphray (Trainer) will be back in December to deliver another training session to more of the staff group.

Billi Bolton, Care Assistant was able to try out a Bariatric Training Suit, which enables staff to feel for themselves the problems of mobility and routine activity experienced everyday by the Individuals they care for.
